Mayweather vs Logan Paul LIVE! Boxing updates and undercard results

Floyd Mayweather is back in the boxing ring tonight as he fights YouTube sensation Logan Paul in what promises to be a huge exhibition event at Miami’s Hard Rock Stadium.

The legendary undefeated four-weight world champion has not fought since December 2018, when he emphatically knocked out Japanese kickboxer Tenshin Nasukawa inside one round.

Mayweather initially called time on his illustrious career back in 2015, though later improved his glittering record to 50-0 by stopping UFC superstar Conor McGregor in ‘The Money Fight’ in 2017.

Along with younger brother Jake, Logan Paul’s move into professional boxing has provoked no shortage of controversy, though he could answer some of those critics with an impressive display tonight in front of 70,000 fans in Florida and many, many more watching on TV across the globe.

Paul – whose only pro bout to date ended in defeat by fellow YouTuber KSI – has big advantages in age, weight and height, coming in at a whopping 34.5lbs heavier, but regardless he faces an enormous challenge against one of the most highly-skilled and celebrated boxers ever to compete.

The likes of Badou Jack and Jarrett Hurd are also in action tonight, while former NFL wide receiver Chad ‘Ochocinco’ Johnson makes his boxing debut.

Some candid social media reflection from Logan Paul in the build-up to tonight’s showdown…

Canelo slams Mayweather vs Paul

Four-weight world champion Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez is among the boxing purists to dismiss events like tonight and the potential dangers involved.

“Well, it’s just an exhibition. It’s about making money is all. It’s not really relevant at all, it’s just for making money. As you say, it’s stupid. I think the question [asking who wins] is offensive,” the Mexican said.

“Mayweather, obviously. I have nothing against anyone. I’m not a fan of saying bad things, but they give them boxing licences when they’re not a boxer.

“They could get them killed. This is not a soccer game, they could get them killed.”

Mayweather famously inflicted Canelo’s only career defeat to date back in 2013 and ‘Money’ gave the following withering response when asked this week what he thought of the Mexican’s recent win over Billy Joe Saunders that took him within one belt of super-middleweight domination.

“I didn’t even see it,” Mayweather said.

“He fight on an app now, right? Real fighters fight on Showtime.”

Mayweather: Paul fight is ‘legalised bank robbery’

Arguably the most eye-catching quote in the build-up to tonight’s event came from Floyd himself, who described the bout as a “legalised bank robbery”.

He said: “I believe in working smarter, not harder. So if it’s something easy like [the Paul fight], a legalised bank robbery, I gotta do it. I have to do it.

“My nickname is ‘Money’ for a reason… I worked extremely hard for years and years to get to a certain level. A level where we can start calling everything an event.”

Former world heavyweight champion Mike Tyson has a rather different view of how things might go tonight…

“Floyd is going to kill this guy, man,” the American said.

“Floyd stays in the gym, he’s never out of shape. He’s going to have so much fun winning this money.”

Paul: Mayweather’s eyes will light up when I hit him

“There’s a moment that goes through every fighter’s mind, everyone we spar, everyone [Paul’s brother] Jake’s beaten, when we hit them and they realize ‘Oh, he might not just do YouTube,’” said Paul.

“I think we’re going to see Floyd’s eyes light up the first time I hit him … for Floyd’s sake let’s hope it doesn’t get physical.

Here are tonight’s odds according to Betfair

The weigh-in results

Mayweather could have gone up to 160lbs if he had wanted, while Logan Paul had an agreed limit of 190lbs.

Mayweather: I haven’t retired from making money

Mayweather confirmed to reporters this week he had already made $30m in the leadup to the fight, saying: “I’m fighting a YouTuber who thinks he’s a real fighter and I’m getting crazy money for it.

“This is not a real fight for me. It’s a real fight for him.”

He added: “I retired from boxing but I didn’t retire from entertainment and I didn’t retire from making money.”

Tonight’s fight purse…

Reports suggest that Logan Paul will bank around $20million from the fight – not bad for a night’s work!

That pales in comparison to Mayweather though, who could supposedly earn up to a total of $100m depending on the number of box office sales.

What are the rules for the bout?

Fans weren’t happy earlier this week when it was revealed that there will be no official winner declared after the exhibition bout, which is not sanctioned by the Florida State Boxing Commission.

There will also be no judges at ringside, but knockouts will be legal and stoppages up to the referee’s discretion.

The fight will consist of eight three-minute rounds, with both men – after a late rule change – wearing 10oz gloves rather than 12oz and no headgear.
