The Olympics have us glued to our screens this year, with plenty of GB successes and super-star sports people, including gold medalist Tom Daley, Dina Asher Smith – Britain’s fastest woman, and 13 year old skateboarder Sky Brown.

A star-studded cast of sports presenters are joining us on the Olympic journey.

Hazel Irvine, the experienced sports presenter and Olympics co host was the commentator for the opening ceremony and has been presenting coverage every day.

But who is the established sports presenter and what is her life like off screen?

Who is Hazel Irvine?

Hazel, 56, was born in St Andrews, Scotland and likes to keep her personal like relatively private.

Surprisingly, she studied History of Art at university, but was a frequent player at her university netball court – and enjoyed golf and athletics team sports.

The host said to the Mail in 2019: “As a child I spent my pocket money on stickers for an Olympics sticker book.”





She continued: “I had a very happy childhood doing sport and outdoors stuff. My dad, Bill, made this half-size snooker table for my brother and me as kids, and Mum crocheted the pockets!”

Hazel’s passion for sport has landed her a fistful of fantastic sporting jobs. She’s hosted four Olympics, loads of World Cups, plenty of Wimbledons and plethora of snooker championships.

Hazel married her long-term boyfriend in 2008 when she was 43 at what “felt like the right time”.

the pair had a private ceremony in Scotland for close family and friends.

Hazel gave birth to her daughter in 2009, who is now 12.

She lives with her family in London.
