Messi and Neymar watch PSG edge Strasbourg as Mbappe scores in Paris

Messi won Copa America with Argentina and has been on holiday so is lacking match fitness along with Ramos, while Donnarumma won the Euros with Italy – but Wijnaldum and Hakimi both made their debuts in Mauricio Pochettino’s starting XI.

But while he couldn’t add star quality on the pitch, Messi offered plenty off it. The 34-year-old legend was reunited with his former Barca team-mate Neymar in the stands as the two friends watched an entertaining clash in the French capital.

PSG looked to be making light work of visitors Strasbourg as goals from Mauro Icardi, Kylian Mbappe and Julian Draxler put them 3-0 up within 27 minutes.

However, PSG have a reputation for taking their foot off the gas in Ligue 1, and goals from Kevin Gameiro and Ludovic Ajorque set up a tense finish in the French capital.

Fortunately for PSG, Alexander Djiku received a red card for Strasbourg, and Pablo Sarabia was on hand to secure a 4-2 victory to ensure the club’s blushes were spared following their glitz transfer unveilings.
