The Gunners have endured an underwhelming campaign under Mikel Arteta, with several stars failing to produce consistently good performances.
That has left many to expect the Emirates Stadium side to be active in the summer transfer window, with a new attacking midfielder high on the recruitment team’s agenda.
With Martin Odegaard unlikely to return once his loan spell from Real Madrid ends, Arteta will need to boost his options in the position in the upcoming window.
One player who has long been linked with a move to the Gunners is Emiliano Buendia, who has helped to power Norwich City to the Championship title this season.
The 24-year-old has scored 15 goals and notched 17 assists in the second tier during the Canaries’ title charge.
He was linked with a move to the Emirates in the January transfer window and it appears that Arsenal will renew their interest in the midfielder.
Buendia is values in the region of £40million, with CBS Sports reporting that an opening bid is expected to be lodged by the Gunners in the coming days.
While there is competition from Aston Villa for the Argentine, it is also stated that Buendia would be extremely interested in a move to Arsenal and would attempt to push a deal through.
One man who has already stated his delight with Buendia is Messi, who faced him numerous times during the former’s five-year spell at Getafe.
Buendia revealed that during one game against Messi, he did something which caught the superstar’s eye.
“I maybe did something good to impress him,” Buendia told the Guardian.
“He asked: ‘What do you want to do? Do you want to play for Spain or Argentina?’ Quickly I said: ‘Of course I want to play for Argentina. I want to play with you – it is a dream’.”
