Arsenal’s lack of creativity has been a clear problem so far this season.
Mikel Arteta’s side have suffered from a lack of spark and found goals hard to come by with attackers such as Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang starved of service.
Those issues could force Arteta to think outside the box in order to find a solution – and he may have the perfect option in the form of Emile Smith Rowe.
The academy graduate impressed on loan at Huddersfield Town last season and has been on the fringes of Arteta’s first-team side.
He again grasped his chance with a lively display in the Europa League against Dundalk, being involved in Arsenal ’s best attacking work in a 4-2 victory to wrap up the group stage.
After the game, Arteta was full of praise for Smith Rowe’s performance, heaping praise on his ability to make things happen.
Having generally been used as a No.10 in the past, Smith Rowe impressed Arteta in an unfamiliar role on the left of a front-three, where he was given plenty of freedom to roam.
“He played in a position that doesn’t suit him perfectly for his qualities,” Arteta said of Smith Rowe.
“You can see every time he’s around the ball that something’s going to happen.
“He has a lot of creativity and has the quality to receive the ball and do things.
“He’s a threat and I’m really happy for his performance.”
Arteta’s comments indicated he sees Smith Rowe’s attributes and the value they provide in various areas of the pitch.
Asked whether he could feature against Burnley at the weekend, Arteta refused to rule out unleashing an attacking weapon that could have a major impact and solve their attacking woes.
”There’s a chance for everybody,” the Spaniard replied.
Eddie Nketiah also got on the scoresheet and could feature at the weekend.
He was substituted after 62 minutes and is clearly in Arteta’s thinking moving forwards.
He added: “Well he has started and he has the possibility to start again and as you said he’s a goal threat he’s always close in every action around the box.
“He’s lively. He’s got the hunger. He’s only satisfied when he scores and he’s an option for sure.”
