Mikel Arteta set ultimatum in order to complete £30m transfer masterstroke

Arsenal have one condition they’ll need to meet before securing a move for Houssem Aouar.

The Lyon midfielder has been identified as the ‘perfect’ signing as Mikel Arteta finally looks to end his pursuit of a creative midfielder this summer.

The Gunners have missed out on the likes of Emi Buendia who joined Aston Villa, while Martin Odegaard is set to fight for his place at Real Madrid following an impressive loan spell at the Emirates during the second half of the season.

That has resulted in Arsenal turning their attention elsewhere and it’s a familiar name in Aouar.

The North London club were linked with the Frenchman last summer for the duration of the transfer window, but nothing materialised as Lyon placed a £50million price tag on their prized asset.

Houssem Aouar could finally join Arsenal this summer

Would Houssem Aouar finally solve Arsenal’s lack of creativity in midfield if they sign him this summer? Comment below

Mikel Arteta’s men have reignited their interest in Aouar and they could reap the rewards for not giving in to the Ligue 1 outfit’s demands a year ago as the 23-year-old could be available for as little as £20m, a snippet of what he would have originally cost.

Arsenal could pull off a £30m masterstroke if they can orchestrate a deal for Aouar this time round, but before they can make an official bid for the playmaker, they will need to sell a few players first, according to ESPN.

However, the club have already got the ball rolling as Matteo Guendouzi sealed a loan move to Marseille, with an option to buy.

William Saliba is also set to join the midfielder in the south of France on another short-term deal until the end of the season.

But they’ll be keen to get a few bodies out the door permanently to boost their transfer kitty for the likes of Aouar.

Granit Xhaka is expected to seal a £20m move to Roma, however, as the Swiss captain links up with Jose Mourinho.

Lucas Torreira is also likely to leave the club this summer, while Hector Bellerin, Alexandre Lacazette, Bernd Leno, Ainsley Maitland-Niles, Reiss Nelson and Joe Willock are all reportedly available at the right price.
