Mino Raiola hints Man Utd got it “wrong” with Erling Haaland transfer choice

Mino Raiola has claimed “everybody was wrong” about Erling Haaland, after Manchester United missed out on the striker in 2020.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer pushed to seal a deal for his compatriot, before he joined Borussia Dortmund at the start of last year.

Since moving to the Budesliga giants, Haaland has continued to push his case as the most exciting player in world football, scoring 49 goals in as many games.

The 20-year-old could be on the move again soon, with Old Trafford touted as a potential destination.

But Raiola has claimed clubs across the continent underestimated his client’s talents, accusing many of thinking he wasn’t ready to perform in one of the top leagues.

“With Haaland, everybody was wrong,” Raiola told the Athletic. “He did things much quicker than everybody imagined.

“Haaland is in front of his own development. He is ahead of his own schedule. Maybe I was too careful when I said, ‘Oh no, let’s move to Dortmund instead of I-don’t-know-where’.

“This boy — I’m 100 per cent convinced and everybody’s convinced — can move to any club, wherever he wants, already on this level.

“And he could have done that last year. But maybe last year there were still teams (saying), ‘Oh, he was in Red Bull, can he do it in another club?’.

“He is quicker than his own prediction. So yeah, Haaland is the talk of the town.”

Solskjaer has remained coy on interest this time around, but has admitted there was serious interest when he left RB Salzburg.

Speaking in Feburary, the United boss said: “One, you know I can’t speak about Erling because he’s with Borussia Dortmund and I think it’s disrespectful to talk too much about it apart from that I know him and that I speak to him.

“Who wasn’t interested in him a year ago? Because everyone would say you’d take the best players in the world and Erling is a top player.”

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has previously admitted he has remained in contact with Erling Haaland

Raiola meanwhile has hinted that he would be willing to keep Haaland at Dortmund until he is completely ready to move on, with the decision ultimately in the player’s hands.

“This is a moment of waiting and seeing what is in the best interest of the player,” he continued. “Sometimes the best interest of the player is not to move when everybody says he has to move.

“And sometimes it is in the best interest of the player to move when everybody says he has to stay. So we will see what happens.”
