Mourinho ‘frustrated’ with Tottenham’s lack of ambition in Wolves draw

ose Mourinho said he was “frustrated” Tottenham sat back and tried to protect their lead for so long before they were pegged back by Wolves.

Spurs went ahead at Molineux after just 57 seconds through Tanguy Ndombele but then sat back.

They led for 85 minutes but could not hold on after what Mourinho said was a lack of ambition from his players.

Romain Saiss equalised to earn a 1-1 draw for Wolves in the 86th minute as Tottenham missed the chance to go third and dropped more points after another negative performance.

Mourinho said: “I am [frustrated]. One point against Wolves normally would not be a bad result. But scoring a goal in the first minute and having control of the game for the rest of it, and having 89 minutes to score more goals is to feel frustrated.

“I do not want to say much. I know the way I prepared the team, I know what I asked from the players, I know what I told them at half-time. I know all that and I do not want to say much more than that. I give some credit to Wolves of course because they put some pressure on us. Pressure that we coped quite well with, controlling the game very well. But we did not have that ambition, that desire to go for more.

“We had the game under control. We conceded in a set-piece. Our problem was that we scored in the first minutes, we had 89 minutes to score more goals and we did not. For me, that was the problem.

“Ask the players at half time what I told them. It was not just about not scoring goals, it was about not being dangerous, not being ambitious. It is a concern that we score early goals and we do not win matches.”
