Nate Diaz has mocked Conor McGregor for demanding a third fight with Dustin Poirier for the UFC title.
McGregor was stopped by Poirier in the second round last weekend in his first fight for more than 12 months.
But despite suffering his second defeat in three fights, the Irishman wants a trilogy fight in May – and for the lightweight title to be on the line.
Diaz, however, who fought McGregor twice in 2016, has dismissed the idea.
“You and DP just got choked on your face the other day by a guy that ran off and didn’t want none especially with me, how you going to fight for a title?
“I been here 14 years and no one can do me like that ever in life.”
Diaz was referring to Khabib Nurmagomedov who beat both McGregor and Poirier to defend the 155lb belt.
He announced his retirement following his win over Justin Gaethje last year but has yet to relinquish his title.
He is expected to do so shortly which would leave the belt up for grabs.
Poirier is almost certain to fight for it and did not dismiss the idea of fighting McGregor again having lost to the Dubliner in 2014.
And McGregor’s coach told ESPN: “”He’s already harassing everybody to get the rematch; he’d love the rematch and I don’t think Dustin is against that.
“If we can get that before the summer that would be amazing; if it’s not be then maybe he drifts off into boxing.
“We’re one and one, we gave him the rematch and I hope he returns the sentiment
“If the fight had gone our way it would have been nice to look at Nate Diaz for the belt but this is the one that lights the fire in him.
“I was looking for him on the yacht and he was in the gym doing an hour-long tough weights workout; that shows you where he is in the head.
“That’s the big drive, that’s the story, it’s one apiece. They’re right up there in the rankings, they’re popular fighters and its a beautiful match-up.
“Dustin is riding high with confidence, I’m sure his confidence is super-high. We need to fix that technique with the leg and another couple of things as well, but Dustin vs Conor III for the belt in May would be amazing.”
