Newcastle are set to put pressure on Manchester United co-owner Joel Glazer when the transfer window opens in January.

The Magpies are expected to flex their new financial muscles in a few months after they were bought out by a Saudi Arabian-backed consortium for £300million.

The Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia, Mohammed bin Salman, is the man behind the Saudi Public Investment Fund worth a staggering £320billion.

But Amanda Staveley will be in charge of making the decisions at the club.

Newcastle have already been linked with some big-name players ahead of January as the new owners want to secure the club’s Premier League status this season.

Four footballers reported being on Newcastle’s wishlist play for Manchester United; Anthony Martial, Jesse Lingard, Donny van de Beek and Eric Bailly.

And should the Magpies step up their interest in the most likely candidate of the four to leave Old Trafford in the near future, Martial, then Glazer will have to make a big decision.

It has previously been revealed that Glazer is a big fan of Martial.

He has reportedly compared him to Brazilian football legend Pele in the past and believes he has significant potential.

So much so that Glazer actually blocked Jose Mourinho’s request to sell the Frenchman during his time in charge of the Old Trafford club.

Mourinho was hoping to cash in on Martial and sign Ivan Perisic but Glazer wasn’t prepared to part company with the forward.

In the years following, Martial has fallen further down the pecking order at Old Trafford and has made only five Premier League appearances this season.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer signed both Cristiano Ronaldo and Jadon Sancho in the summer transfer window and this has made game time even harder to come by for Martial.

The Frenchman has previously been linked with a move to Dortmund, which suits Man United to some degree as it could help them secure a transfer for Erling Haaland.

But Newcastle are set to have a significant transfer warchest in January and may test United’s resolve with a big bid for Martial.

Should this happen then Glazer will be under pressure to sell Martial, even if it is against his better nature to do so.
