Newcastle vs Tottenham suspended as defibrillator rushed to unwell fan

The game was just minutes away from half-time with Tottenham leading 2-1 when the referee ordered both teams to leave the field to allow medical staff to help the supporter

Newcastle’s clash with Tottenham was suspended mid-match on Sunday as a defibrillator was rushed across the field to an unwell fan in the stands.

Both teams were ordered off the pitch by referee Andre Marriner just before half-time as medics attended to the supporter in concerning scenes at St. James’ Park.

Following the supporter’s collapse, fans in the east stand started signalling to the players and the referee for medical attention.

After left-back Sergio Reguillon and captain Harry Kane informed Marriner, fellow Spurs duo Eric Dier and Oliver Skipp ran across the pitch to ensure a doctor came across with a defibrillator.

After consulting with security, the referee ordered the players to head back to the dressing room, with seven minutes having been added at the end if the first half.
