Nicolas Pepe has been warned to up his consistency or face being left out in the cold like Arsenal team-mate Mesut Ozil.
Pepe scored in the Gunners’ 3-0 win over Irish minnows Dundalk in the Europa League on Thursday night.
The £72million record Arsenal buy completed the rout moments after the restart, latching onto a loose ball on the edge of the area before firing home.
But he wasn’t the Gunners’ best player by any stretch, and made a handful of mistakes at the Emirates, including sending a corner into the side netting.
Former Arsenal defender Martin Keown is a fan of the 25-year-old, and praised his technique and creativty.

But Keown fears that if Pepe cannot improve his consistency for the Gunners then he may find himself on the wrong end of Mikel Arteta’s ruthless streak, just like Ozil.
He told BT Sport: “These are the moments from Pepe that we were expecting when he first arrived. We haven’t seen enough from this player, and it is, how can you get the best?
“We’ve all talked about Ozil not being around and the manager saying he failed the player. What about Pepe now? We’re moving onto the next generation.
“How do you get the best from him, and is he getting the best from himself?
“We saw that little bit of magic there, he’s creative, he’s got the technique, but its about bringing those out in key moments for Arsenal.”
