Nuno Espirito Santo responds to questions over Tottenham vacancy

Nuno Espirito Santo insists he stands by his Wolves’ contract despite being in the frame for the Spurs job.

Wolves boss Nuno is among the favourites for the vacancy at Tottenham after Jose Mourinho’s sacking.

The Portuguese coach is highly-rated after taking Wanderers into the top-flight and then Europe.

He signed a new three-year contract in September but his superagent Jorge Mendes is believed to be considering other options away from Molineux for Nuno.

Wolves’ stunning progress after successive seventh-place finishes appears to have stalled this season amid injuries and the sale of Diogo Jota.

But Nuno,47, in charge since 2017, responded: “I have a contract. It is my decision to sign a contract and that is what I want to say.

Wolves fans are worried boss Nuno could walk out for Tottenham if he gets offered the job

“When I make a decision like that there is no doubts in my mind.

“There are no doubts at all.

“I am going to be here on Friday at 8.30 in the morning to prepare our game against Burnley.”

Wolves host Burnley on Sunday on the back of successive 1-0 wins in the Premier League over Fulham and Sheffield United.

And the Wolves boss insists his side’s attitude should not be doubted after battling on amid a raft of injuries this season.

Asked about Wolves’ character, an irritated Nuno responded: “It never went away.

“We had problems and tried to find solutions.

“Some of them work out immediately, some of them don’t.

“But it is all about that – problems and solutions.

“Being persistent and insistent to deal with it.

“What I appreciate more is we have been able to deal with them as a group, without conflict.

“We realised the situation was not good and it needed the commitment of everybody.

“It never went away from us – the determination, commitment, character.

“They were willing to give everything they can for the club.”

Nuno is still unsure when Mexican striker Raul Jimenez will be available after his fractured skull in November.

He added: “He was joining us soon but we still have to wait and be patient.

“The main issue is the bone. You have to respect that and that is why we don’t allow him to head the ball.

“It is about the bone, it is not about his fitness.”
