Ole Gunnar Solskjaer suggests he has found Man Utd’s new utility man

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is a big fan of Axel Tuanzebe.

Solskjaer has long been vocal in his praise of the young defender, despite having to be patient during his year-long injury hell.

Tuanzebe was finally able to repay that faith from the Norwegian with a stunning display against Paris Saint-Germain in United’s Champions League opener.

It led to club legend Rio Ferdinand suggesting he was undroppable after the display in which he kept Kylian Mbappe quiet.

Speaking ahead of their weekend clash with Chelsea, Solskjaer has suggested Tuanzebe could become a utility man in his squad.

Despite impressing at centre-back, the manager underlined his ability to also play at right-back and in central midfield moving forwards.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer says Axel Tuanzebe can play numerous roles for his side

“It was a great performance by a kid who has not played for 10 months,” Solskjaer said.

“Delighted for him because he’s such a professional character, he wants everything, he works really hard, been really, really thorough in his rehab and very pleased for him.

“Now to get the consistency in his performances he’s got to stay injury free, we’ve got to manage that, that’s mine and his job and the physical staff’s job.

“But I think he can kick on. He’s a leader, he can play centre-back, right-back, he can play centre midfield, he can play many positions.

“He’s a boy who takes responsibility for his own development. I’m sure he’s doing everything he can to have a long career at United so hopefully we can get this consistency.”

Tuanzebe, meanwhile, felt their win over PSG helped prove United remain a big club.

“We’re a big club, and we’re out here to compete. We’re not here for the music or just for the parade.

“We worked hard last season to be in this competition, so we want to be the best we can and we wanted to start off just as we did here and continue this momentum going forward.”
