Olympiacos 1-3 Arsenal LIVE! Europa League action as it happened

Arsenal returned to Europa League action to put one foot in the quarter-finals after a big 3-1 win over Olympiacos in Greece tonight.

The Gunners did not always make life easy for themselves, throwing away a first-half lead that had been earned through Martin Odegaard’s long-range screamer when a defensive mix-up allowed Youssef El-Arabi to equalise.

But Gabriel’s magnificent header 11 minutes from the end restored the advantage before substitute Mohamed Elneny capped an excellent night’s work with a cracking strike late on.

The result means Arsenal have a sizeable cushion to take back to north London for the second leg next week, though they’ll be all too aware that first-leg victory against the same opponents at the last-32 stage last season did not prove enough to send them through to the next round.

That’s a big win for Arsenal, not least because it puts them in the box seat to qualify, but also because they prevented deja vu happening again. They gifted Olympiacos a goal, however they fought back to get the win.

Elneny strides forward and has space to shoot so lets fly with a terrific effort. Sa gets fingers to it but only tips it onto the inside of the post and in!

Hector Bellerin gets to the byline and squeezes a cross between ‘keeper and post, right along the goalline, and wide without anyone being able to turn it home.

A huge goal for Arsenal that. They needed someone to step up and it was Gabriel of all people. A stunning header.

Arsenal take a short corner and Willian loops a bit of a nothing cross up to the far post but Gabriel chucks absolutely everything at it and powers a stunning header into the far corner.

74 mins: 1-1 wouldn’t be a disastrous result given Arsenal have got the away goal, but it’s the manner of it. They seem to have reclaimed the initiative as they look to retake the lead.

67 mins: Unsurprisingly, that goal has put a real spring in the home side’s step and they’re threatening again.

This time a nice move down the right ends with a cut-back to El-Arabi and Bellerin gets a crucial block in to turn it wide.

63 mins: They were fortunate to get away with a couple in the first half, to be honest, but Arsenal just will not learn. They’ve gifted away their advantage.
