Paul brands Fury ’embarrassing’ after fight announcement with ‘journeyman’

Jake Paul has branded rival Tommy Fury ’embarrassing’ following the announcement of his next upcoming fight against known ‘journeyman’ boxer Andy Bishop.

Fury so far boasts a perfect 5-0 record as a professional, with four of his wins coming by knockout within the first two rounds.

His rising profile has led to him exchanging barbs with YouTube star Paul, who has teased a match-up between the pair in the near future.

Frank Warren, who promotes ex-Love Island star Fury, stated previously that the fight would be easy to arrange and an ideal opportunity for the 22-year-old.

But rather than follow up on a prospective deal, Fury has instead been matched with 38-year-old Bishop, whose own record stands at 0-14.

Tommy Fury is set to enter the ring again on June 5 against another questionable opponent

Conor McGregor’s coach, John Kavanagh, was first to call out the ludicrousness of the bout, writing on Twitter: “5-0 vs 0-14. Really?”

Paul then shared that tweet along with pictures of the two fighters and their respective records on his Instagram account.

“And of course this gets announced the next day,” he captioned his post. “Embarrassing the Fury name.”

It is not the first time Fury has been criticised over the credibility of his opponents, with his five previous holding a total of over 170 losses between them and just 12 victories.

Fury’s clash with Bishop will be on the undercard to Daniel Dubois’ ring return against Bogdan Dinu on June 5.

But it remains to be seen whether he will face off with Paul after that.

Paul is otherwise engaged on the same night as he will be ringside for his brother Logan’s exhibition fight with Floyd Mayweather.

There is plenty of hype surrounding the fight after Paul stole the limelight from his older sibling by clashing with Mayweather himself after stealing his hat.

The fracas only served to boost Paul’s profile further, and he recently scoffed at suggestions he would accept a 50/50 split to meet Fury.

“No one has ever watched any of his fights, the only reason people know of him is because of me,’ Paul told ESPN last month.

“He started talking about me and his brother called me out on his behalf.

“No one has ever watched a Tommy Fury pay-per-view so no one knows if he will do numbers at the box office.

“His [promoter Frank Warren] went on TV and said send the contract, 50/50.

“I was like, get out of here with that.

“This guy only has a name and has articles written about him because of me and you’re asking for 50/50… take it somewhere else.”
