Paul Merson has taken aim at Arsenal summer signing Willian.
The Brazilian joined on a free transfer in August after he rejected the chance to stay at Frank Lampard’s Chelsea.
Willian spent seven years at Stamford Bridge but the forward let his contract run down and he secured a move across London.
Towards the end of last season Willian was unplayable for Chelsea but he’s been unable to translate that form so far for Mikel Arteta.
Three assists on his debut against Fulham was a promising start but in the 11 appearances Willian hasn’t contributed a thing towards goal.
Despite arriving on a fee, his age and hefty wages could be coming back to bite Arteta and Edu.
Willian’s form is something that club legend Paul Merson has picked up on and he has criticised the Brazil star.
“I don’t know what’s happened to Willian,” he told Sky Sports .
“He was unplayable for Chelsea at times last season, and then Arsenal sign him and you think: ‘What a signing this is. On a free transfer!’ I can’t remember him having a good game yet. I’m a massive, massive fan of his. He’s just not got going.
“And at the moment Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is not playing. You can’t play in a football match and touch the ball six times in a half. You’ve got to go and get the ball, get involved, whatever happens.”
