Pep Guardiola claims he “could not care less” his nemesis Mateu Lahoz will take charge of Saturday’s Champions League Final.
The City boss says he is not bothered that his fellow Spaniard will referee the final in Porto because he has such belief in his side.
“No,” said Guardiola. “Not one second. I could not care less.
“I am so confident in my team. You cannot imagine how confident I am in my team and what we have to do.”
Guardiola was not so restrained three years ago when Lahoz sent him to the stands for protesting against his decision to wrongly disallow Leroy Sane’s goal in the quarter-final second leg at the Etihad.
The strike would have reduced Liverpool’s aggregate lead to 3-2 before they went on to win 5-1 and a scathing Guardiola said: “He’s a referee, who likes to feel different, he’s special.
“When everybody sees things, he is going to see the opposite.”
Guardiola says he has yet to finalise his team to face Chelsea in the club’s first Champions League Final.
“They are ready,” he said. “I know how good they are, all of them. I’m not going to change my opinion because of one or two training sessions.
“I know most of them for many years. I have an idea, but the starting 11 is still not done. Not yet.”
