Pep Guardiola on Man City’s win over Man Utd

Manchester City fans are still basking in the glow of a weekend to celebrate.

After rocking up at Old Trafford and cantering to a 2-0 win over Manchester United in the derby, City watched on as their main title rivals dropped points, with Chelsea drawing to Burnley and Liverpool going down to West Ham United.

It means City go into the international break just two points off the summit and in a strong position to defend their title.

Even so, there’s a long way to go in the season and the upcoming January transfer window will give manager Pep Guardiola a chance to refine his squad should he wish, with City persistently linked with a new centre-forward.

Sterling has fallen down the pecking order at City as of late.

Guardiola explains Barcelona lure amid Sterling links

Barcelona are still big enough to attract the world’s finest footballers according to Guardiola, with Raheem Sterling linked with a move to the Camp Nou recently.

Sterling has spoken candidly about his future as of late, suggesting he would be willing to move clubs if he continues to struggle for minutes at the Etihad Stadium.

Reports in Spain have said Barcelona are keen on him, although a deal may be financially difficult for the Blaugrana, and per Mundo Deportivo (h/t the Manchester Evening News ), Guardiola said he would understand any player wanting to move to the La Liga giants.

“Honestly I have no idea,” said the former Barcelona manager. “I don’t know anything. Not that I would tell you anyway.

“If Barcelona are interested in any of our players, I am convinced that they can get them. Barca continues to be an attractive club, more than attractive. The city, the club, the history and this for the trainers, for the players always seduces a lot.”

City forward Ferran Torres has said he would like to return to former club Valencia later in his career.

The Spain international is currently sidelined after a brilliant start to the campaign and it will be intriguing to see where he fits into Guardiola’s sky-blue machine when he returns.

In the long-term, the 21-year-old has said he would like to go back to the Mestalla, per Movistar+ via AS (h/t Sport Witness ).

“Valencia are my club. I’d like to return in the future,” said Torres. “So many years at Valencia. It was a bit difficult with the criticisms, but for me, Valencia is my club.”

Zinchenko linked with Shevchenko reunion

According to Il Secolo XIX, relayed by Sport Mediaset (h/t Sport Witness ), new Genoa manager Andriy Shevchenko wants to sign Oleksandr Zinchenko.

The pair have worked together previously, with Shevchenko in charge of the Ukrainian national team before his recent move into club management.

With Joao Cancelo excelling at left-back and a number of high-class options available to Guardiola in midfield, it’s difficult to see Zinchenko getting too many minutes for City in the months to come.
