Petr Cech personally driving push for Chelsea to beat Man Utd to summer signing

Petr Cech is the driving force behind Chelsea’s push to land one of Manchester United’s top transfer targets this summer.

Both clubs are desperate to bolster their squads this year with big plans ahead of next year.

The two Premier League giants have ambitions of winning the title, with the Blues landing the Champions League against Manchester City earlier this year.

The Red Devils are moving quickly with their transfers this summer and already have an agreement to sign Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund for a fee of around £73m.

That deal is set to be completed after the Euro 2020 final tonight but there is another Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has his sights on.

Camavinga looks set to leave Rennes this summer

Rennes starlet Eduardo Camavinga is being eyed as a potential Paul Pogba replacement, who is entering the final year of his contract.

The 18-year-old, who also has one year on his deal, could be available for as cheap as £25m with the Ligue 1 outfit keen to avoid missing out on a fee for the highly-rated teenager.

United are one interested party, as well as Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain.

But Chelsea have also entered the race for the midfielder with club director Cech a major force behind the prospective move.

The former goalkeeper is a well-renowned figure at Rennes, where he was before he joined the Blues in 2004, and still has close friends at the club.

He helped aid a move last summer for Edouard Mendy, who has gone on to prove himself among the best goalkeepers in the Premier League.

Chelsea technical director Petr Cech could play a vital part in transfer negotiations

And the Czech Republic legend is looking to use his contacts to help Chelsea beat United to the signing of Camavinga, according to French football expert Julien Laurens.

Chelsea managing director Marina Granovskaia has already reaped the rewards from Cech’s influence, who is becoming more and more central to the club’s transfer plans.

After the arrival of Mendy last year, she was particularly praiseworthy of the Blues icon.

“As soon as Petr Cech and our technical team identified Edouard as the most suitable goalkeeper to complement our existing group, there was only one player we wanted to bring in,” she said in September last year.

Last week, Rennes boss Bruno Genesio admitted they are looking to sell Camavinga this summer.

He said: “We have already stressed several times that we cannot afford to remain in this situation concerning an international player like him.

“It’s part of a career to have important decisions to make, he has a very important one [decision] to make for his future, and we at the club also have our interests to defend.

“I hope we find a solution that everyone is satisfied with.”
