Phil Foden has given his social media company their marching orders after they posted a controversial tweet calling out Kylian Mbappe from his account.
Foden, 20, scored the winner as Manchester City beat Borussia Dortmund 2-1 on Wednesday to seal a 4-2 aggregate victory and set up a mouth-watering Champions League semi-final with Paris Saint-Germain.
But the aftermath of the match was marred for the England international when the company which runs his Twitter account wrote “@KMbappe are you ready?” and added a handshake emoji.
Foden and his representatives were left furious by the tweet, which was seen by thousands of his near half-a-million followers before it was deleted.
The City ace was so aggrieved by the message to Mbappe – which was sent without his consent – that he has decided to sack Ten Toes Media, who ran the account.
That’s according to the Daily Telegraph , which claims Foden and his advisors noted the tweet would be amusing in the eyes many fans, but were unhappy with its confrontational tone.
Has Foden made the right decision by sacking his social media company? Have your say in the comments.
The report adds Foden will reflect on how to manage his social media accounts going forward after parting ways with Ten Toes Media, who have also worked with his Three Lions teammates Harry Kane and Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
In the meantime, the youngster’s attention turns to City’s FA Cup semi-final with Chelsea on Saturday, ahead of the first leg with PSG later this month.
