PSG vs Manchester City: Champions League preview

PSG cannot afford to let more points in the competition slip after a surprise opening draw to Club Brugge.

Mauricio Pochettino will be worried about the fitness of summer recruit Lionel Messi after the Argentine sat out each of PSG’s past two fixtures with an injury.

He seems likely to have at least some involvement, though, against a club managed by his former Barcelona manager Pep Guardiola, and could again form a high-priced, high-powered front three with Kylian Mbappe and Neymar.

Guardiola’s side kick-started their campaign with an entertaining 6-3 win over RB Leipzig and travel to Paris with their confidence boosted after a superb, controlled win over Premier League leaders Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

The pair last met at the semi-final stage of last year’s competition, with Manchester City victorious in both legs on their way to a 4-1 aggregate triumph.

Date, kick-off time and venue

PSG vs Manchester City team news

Lionel Messi is considered a doubt for Mauricio Pochettino’s side after missing PSG’s past two games. The Argentine is likely to play some role, however, in such a key game for the French capital club, while Sergio Ramos is not far away from full fitness, either, but may have to wait to make his PSG debut.

Manchester City received an unexpected fitness boost ahead of their win against Chelsea, with both Aymeric Laporte and Rodri able to start after their injuries, and John Stones back among the substitutes. Ilkay Gundogan missed out at Stamford Bridge with his own issue, though, while Oleksandr Zinchenko has also been absent recently after a knock.

PSG vs Manchester City prediction

PSG know they cannot afford to cede further ground in the group to Manchester City, and will be keen to exploit a defence that showed vulnerability against RB Leipzig. However this is a Manchester City side with renewed confidence after a fine win over Chelsea. A high-scoring draw seems likely.
