PSG’s Champions League-winning XI if Pogba completes huge transfer from Man Utd

The news that Paul Pogba looks to be on the way out of Manchester United is perhaps not much of a surprise to anyone.

And nor is the understanding that Paris Saint-Germain are at the head of the queue to sign him.

The French giants have been extremely busy in the summer transfer window thus far, wrapping up deals for expensive new signings and some of the best talent around who are available on free transfers.

Gianluigi Donnarumma, Sergio Ramos and Gini Wijnaldum have all made the move to the French capital after their contracts at previous clubs ran out, while the club’s owners had no problem in forking out the cash to bring Achraf Hakimi to Paris from Inter Milan.

Pogba could make the move to Paris Saint-Germain

PSG mean business this summer then, and the signing of Pogba would only go one step further towards them achieving their ultimate goal.

That goal?

The Champions League.

Maybe in the end the thought of winning their first ever major European crown – and a first since the 2001 Intertoto Cup, no less – behind closed doors just simply didn’t appeal to PSG, who lost in the final of the Champions League to Bayern Munich in 2020.

Last year it was Manchester City who got the better of them in a semi-final in which the French side were clearly the weaker of the two teams, and so action has been taken to try and capture the crown that the club crave.

Italy’s Donnarumma , a new European champion and the player of the tournament this summer will undoubtedly take over as the new No.1 having arrived on a free transfer from AC Milan, not that there was much wrong with previous first-choice Keylor Navas.

In defence, Hakimi will take the right-back berth that was previous often inhabited by promising youngster Colin Dagba, with Germany’s Thilo Kehrer also capable of playing there.

Ramos and Marquinhos will form a fine centre-back pairing, with cover from France’s Presnel Kimpembe and Senegal international Abdou Diallo, with attack-minded Juan Bernat on the left and covered by Layvin Kurzawa.

Midfield then sees Italy star Marco Verratti in the centre as the player who will look to break up play, with Wijnaldum and potentially Pogba both surely expecting starting berths.

In reserve there is Argentina’s Leandro Paredes, who would be unlucky to lose his place, as well as Danilo, the ex-Aston Villa and Everton man Idrissa Gueye and former Manchester United midfielder Ander Herrera.

Then joining the attack from the right could be Angel Di Maria , with Julian Draxler and Pablo Sarabia in the reserve after the latter’s impressive Euros with Spain.

Of course we then know all about Neymar and Kylian Mbappe , but Mauro Icardi is also still at the club.

A team fit to win Ligue 1? Without a doubt.

And the Champions League? It will be their greatest ever chance.
