Solskjaer takes responsibility for Maguire selection in defeat

Marcus Rashford admitted Manchester United’s players held crisis talks after their lamentable 4-2 defeat away to Leicester.

Defeat at the weekend meant United have picked up just one point from their last three Premier League games, to increase the pressure on boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Rashford, who made his first appearance of the season and scored in the defeat, revealed Solskjaer’s players had clear-the-air talks to try to get their campaign back on track.

“It’s not only after defeats,” said Rashford. “It’s also after some games when we win, when we know we’ve not played well.

“It’s as important, if not more important, to have those conversations, because you want to nip it in the bud as soon as possible.

“Especially in the Premier League, you have to defend well, and I don’t talk about just the back four.

“As a team you have to defend as one and, against Leicester, we were just too open. It’s as simple as that.

“They’re a good footballing team, there are a lot of them out there and it was too easy for them to play through us, so we’re going to do our best not to let that happen again.

“For us as players, we have to go back to basics, look at ourselves and see what we can do better.

“We’ve had the conversation as a team, as we would do whether we win a game or lose a game.

“We know the next game is another opportunity to improve and that’s always the aim.

“We want silverware, everyone wants to win trophies. But there are steps you have to take to get there and you don’t just win trophies overnight.

“We’ve been on this journey for a while now, come close a lot of times and we have to find the difference between coming close and getting our hands on trophies.”
