RB Leipzig vs Liverpool: Champions League preview

Coronavirus travel restrictions preventing travellers from the UK from entering Germany mean the game is being played at a neutral venue; the Puskas Arena in Budapest.

Liverpool will be hoping that a return to Europe – and a competition which surely now stands as their only chance of silverware this season – can spark some life back into their season after a run of three straight league defeats, the last of which against Leicester on Saturday saw Jurgen Klopp concede the Premier League title.

This will be no easy task, though. Leipzig are enjoying an excellent season, second to Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga, and emerged from a tough group including Manchester United and PSG.

Date, kick-off time and venue

RB Leipzig vs Liverpool is scheduled for an 8pm kick-off on Tuesday, February 16, 2021.

The game will be played behind closed doors at a neutral venue, Puskas Arena in Budapest, because of current coronavirus restrictions.

How to watch RB Leipzig vs Liverpool

TV channel: Tuesday’s match will be shown live on BT Sport 2 with coverage starting from 7pm.

Live stream: Subscribers can watch the game live on the BT Sport website and app.

Leipzig had the luxury of resting the likes of Marcel Sabitzer, Dayot Upamecano and Alexander Sorloth for the win over Augsburg at the weekend.

Liverpool are likely to be without James Milner after he was forced off early in the defeat to Leicester, while Jurgen Klopp must decide whether to start Ozan Kabak again after he was involved in a mix-up goalkeeper Alisson on his debut at the King Power.

RB Leipzig vs Liverpool prediction: 2-1 home win

Liverpool look confidence-shot at the moment and Leipzig are in fine form, though they don’t have home advantage because of those Covid restrictions. The Germans may emerge with a narrow win but a 2-1 defeat would leave Liverpool well in the tie heading back to Anfield.
