RB Leipzig vs Man City: Champions League – LIVE!

It may be a dead rubber for Pep Guardiola but tonight’s trip to Germany comes at a very interesting time for Man City and RB Leipzig.

Firstly, Premier League leaders City travel to Red Bull Arena, for a game behind closed doors due to Covid-19 restrictions, with a youthful squad eager to impress.

Seven consecutive wins, including victories over Paris Saint-Germain, Manchester United and West Ham, have generated serious momentum and, even with a heavily-rotated XI, City will be desperate to keep the streak going.

And then there are Leipzig. The Bundesliga side are sat third in Group A and need to at least match Club Brugge’s result versus PSG to reach the Europa League knockouts. After sacking Jesse Marsch on the weekend, Achim Beierlorzer will be looking for a quick reaction from the underperforming side.

With kick-off at 5.45pm GMT, follow all the action from Red Bull Arena with our live blog…

Ten minutes until kick-off!

Pep Guardiola gives his take on De Bruyne’s return to BT Sport ahead of the game.

He says: “It’s about how he’s going to feel, maybe he knows when he’ll be tired – 10 minutes, 40, 90… We’ll see.”

Get to know the Leipzig interim manager

Achim Beierlorzer is in the Leipzig hotseat for his second interim spell at the club.

The 54-year-old was installed in 2015 to see out the final months of the 2015/16 season but won only six of his 15 games in charge – before being replaced by new Manchester United interim Ralf Rangnick, who he remained at the club to assist.

Spells as manager of Jahn Regensburg, Koln and Mainz followed, with the latter two short and not hugely sweet for the former semi-pro footballer.

Achim is also the brother of two-time Bundesliga champion and ex-Bayern Munich star Bertram Beierlorzer.

We have already had one clash between these clubs today as Man City Under-19s took on Leipzig’s youth team in the Uefa Youth League.

A Carlos Borges goal won all three points for City in the 83rd minute but both had already been knocked out at the group stage.
