Lukaku is set to re-join Chelsea in a £97.5million move from Inter Milan and Ferdinand believes his previous spell with United will motivate him to achieve Premier League success
Lukaku is poised to re-join the Blues from Inter Milan after the west London club agreed to pay £97.5million for his signature.
The Belgian striker boarded a plane from Milan to London last night to complete the second half of his medical ahead of a blockbuster return to the Premier League.
Lukaku scored 66 times in 97 matches for Inter and fired them to the Serie A title last season under Antonio Conte’s management.

United signed him from Everton for £75m in July 2017, but despite scoring 42 goals in 96 appearances across two seasons for the club, the move never really worked out, with a £74m transfer to Inter forthcoming in 2019.
Lukaku will now join up with Thomas Tuchel’s side ahead of the 2021/22 campaign and former United defender Ferdinand thinks his previous spell in England will act as motivation to turn Chelsea into title contenders.
“I’ve spoken to him recently and he’s hungry, man,” Ferdinand said on his FIVE YouTube channel on Monday.
“He hasn’t confirmed to me that he’s signing for Chelsea but he just said this season, he’s hungry.
“I just think this guy, a lot of greatness comes through having fuel and what I mean by that is having doubters and wanting to prove them wrong.
“He’s got a whole stadium full at Manchester United who doubted him, all the fanbase at Old Trafford doubted him. A lot of people weren’t too dissatisfied when he left.
Will Romelu Lukaku turn out to a successful signing for Chelsea? Let us know in the comments section.
“He will be sitting there and looking in the diary to see when that Old Trafford game is and he will want to unload.
“Romelu Lukaku guarantees you 20 goals, minimum. He guarantees you that. He’s scored goals wherever he’s been, he’s an elite goalscorer, it’s as simple as that.
“If he gets the chances that Timo Werner got last year, he bangs 30-35 goals, it’s as simple as that.
“I think Werner will still be vital for them with how he runs off the ball and creates space.
“Chelsea have heavy artillery up front now, a real mix of talent, all different type of players, a real good blend.
“Lukaku going there makes them an absolute threat to win the title. They could win it.”
