Rio Ferdinand’s message to Edinson Cavani after latest crucial Man Utd goal

Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has urged Edinson Cavani to stay at the club after the forward scored in their 3-1 victory over Aston Villa.

United battled back from going 1-0 down to claim a convincing victory following a penalty from Bruno Fernandes and goals by Mason Greenwood and Cavani.

Red Devils boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been working on getting the Uruguayan to remain at the Premier League club as his current contract runs out this summer.

And after Cavani scored his eighth goal in seven matches on Sunday, Ferdinand added his voice to those attempting to convince him to stay.

Edinson Cavani has been on fine form recently

He tweeted: “Mr @ECavaniOfficial pls stay. Thank you”

There have been murmurs that Cavani has received interest from other clubs including Boca Juniors.

But Solskjaer has been public about his want for him to stay and made him a promise to entice him to remain at United.

Solskjaer said: “This year has been very difficult but I’ve promised him Old Trafford and Manchester is a different place without fans in the stadium, he must try to get that feeling onside. Manchester is a fantastic place to live, I’m doing my best. Let’s see.

“Nights like this, hopefully we can get to the final and hopefully he can see himself being here for another year.”

Cavani’s goal helped United keep Manchester City’s league title celebrations on ice as the win took them within 10 points of the league leaders.

And while United may be out of reach from the Premier League this season they could still claim silverware.

The club head to the Europa League final where they face Villarreal on May 26.
