Liverpool’s Andy Robertson has been spotted wearing a protective boot after suffering an ankle injury on Sunday.

The left-back was due to undergo a scan today after the game with Athletic Bilbao.

Robertson appeared to go over his right ankle when blocking a cross shortly before half time and had to be helped off the pitch by medics.

Today he has been pictured on crutches by Splash News whilst having his right foot heavily protected.

He is likely to miss Liverpool’s Premier League opener this weekend against Norwich.

Speaking after the contest Jurgen Klopp said: “We obviously don’t know in the moment how serious it is.

“It was pretty painful and that’s why Andy went off. You probably saw it on the TV pictures better than we did, but he got the ball, the ball on the front of his foot, [and] twisted the ankle.

“The pain settled already, but we cannot say anything further without further assessment tomorrow.

“He has to get a scan and then we will know more.”

Robertson was an ever present for the Reds last term with Kostas Tsimikas the only other left-back at the club, although against Athletic Bilbao the Scot was replaced by youngster Owen Beck.

The injury is anything but welcome, especially after a season that saw the Liverpool defence decimated by absences.

Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip all faced lengthy spells on the sidelines. The former two have only just returned to action in pre-season.

The 1-1 draw with Athletic Bilbao was Liverpool’s penultimate run out before they take on Norwich on Sunday.

It also saw fans return to Anfield and Klopp was pleased to see them back as his side continued to push for match sharpness.

He said: “Yeah, it was. And you saw how important it is that you have 90 minutes’ football as well during pre-season.

“That was now probably the most intense session we had so far, you could see it in the face of the players. But I think for 50-55 minutes we saw an absolute top game from my team.

“I think we were obviously inspired by the crowd. Having 42,000 people back in the stadium, they were obviously really looking forward to seeing us again.

“And the boys took that and played an outstanding first half – full of power, good football in between the lines, super counter-press, winning balls back, playing forward directly after that.

“So a lot of good things I saw today. And that’s something obviously you need for a successful season.”
