Romelu Lukaku looks to have landed in London as he closes in on a return to Chelsea with the Blues set to smash their transfer record to land the Inter Milan striker
Romelu Lukaku looks to have touched down in London ahead of his move to Chelsea.
The striker is set to complete a £97.5m switch from Inter Milan to west London, seven years after leaving Stamford Bridge.
Lukaku has found the net with regularity wherever he’s played and the Blues are desperate to add a striker this summer.
Thomas Tuchel led the club to European glory last term, but did so without a prolific frontman.
Now, as he plots a title charge, the German wants to add more firepower and Lukaku’s arrival will tick that box.
The switch has been pending for days as personal terms and the finer details of the deal were ironed out.
Lukaku now appears to have
, as per footage that has surfaced on social media.
The Belgian was signed by Chelsea back in 2011 having burst onto the scene with Anderlecht, but he made just a hand full of appearances.
He was sent out on loan to West Brom and then Everton, who opted to sign him.
Moves to Manchester United and Inter have followed as the 28-year-old establishes himself as one of Europe’s premier marksman.
Last term he spearheaded Inter’s charge to the Serie A title, scoring 30 times.
Tuchel has already talked up the striker as among the world’s elite ahead of his move.
He told Sky Sports:”‘We lost Olivier Giroud who played a crucial role in the club.
“He was the kind of profile who likes to play with his back to goal, who likes to hold up balls, who creates space for Timo Werner, Kai Havertz, Christian Pulisic; who is ready to fight physically with defenders.
“This is the kind of profile that we don’t have in our squad right now and that we are looking for.
“It’s still not the moment to talk about names because we have nobody signed yet and we will show all the respect to other clubs.
“Romelu is one of the guys like Haaland at Dortmund, Robert Lewandowski at Bayern, Harry Kane at Tottenham, who is a real number nine who loves to score and who has a presence in the box. That is not a secret.
“The sentence [Tuchel describing Lukaku as a ‘fantastic player’] is easy to repeat for any coach in the world.
“But [his] is the kind of profile we’re looking for.”
