Ronaldo names best performance of his career and “unlucky” favourite goal

Cristiano Ronaldo has claimed his most memorable game and goal of his career both came against his current employers Juventus.

The 36-year-old has spent almost two decades at the top of the game and has amassed a CV that is rivalled by very few in history.

With five Champions League winners’ medals, numerous domestic titles, as well as Portgual’s historic Euro 2016 success, Ronaldo’s trophy cabinet is more stocked than the vast majority of clubs.

And asked to narrow his memorable career to just one match, the Juve forward pointed to the Champions League final in 2017, a game which saw Ronaldo score twice in a 4-1 win for Real Madrid.

“As I’ve mentioned before, it’s so difficult to mention just one performance having played well in so many games,” Ronaldo, Official Global Brand Ambassador for LiveScore said.

It is really hard to choose, but I would say the games where you score three or even four goals are always special. For example, I’ll always remember my hat-trick for Portugal against Spain in the 2018 FIFA World Cup.”

He continued: “The games that I remember the most are always the finals, like the UEFA Champions League Final 2017 vs my current club Juventus F.C., where I scored two goals. It is really hard to choose just one performance because I have been lucky to play in so many games.”

His favourite goal was another against the Old Lady and his current teammates, pointing to his remarkable overhead kick a season later.

“As you know, I have scored 777 goals in my career,” he explained. “It is a bit unlucky but unfortunately, I have to mention that I scored my favourite ever goal against my current team Juventus F.C. [his overhead kick goal in the UEFA Champions League Quarter-Final 2018] and past my great friend Gianluigi Buffon!

“I would say that is my best and favourite goal that I’ve ever scored in my career.”

Ronaldo is set to play a key role in Fernando Santos’ exciting Portugal side, as they look to replicate their feats of 2016.

Despite winning every club competition available to him, the former Real Madrid and Manchester United star admitted that winning the Euros with his national side was his “most important” trophy.

“I have spoken before about what an important moment that European Football Championship 2016 win was for the Portuguese team, and for the country,” Ronaldo continued.

“We were so proud to be able to bring the trophy home. It was very emotional. To win it again would be incredible, and of course we go to the tournament with that as our ambition, we have a good team but also we know there are a lot of very strong teams there.”

On the final itself, he said: “By the end of the match I was crying with happiness!

“I experienced three types of feelings and emotions in that game, but at the end of the day it was unbelievable what I felt! It is probably the most important trophy that I’ve won in my life.”
