Ronaldo’s reaction at FIFA awards decision as he’s snubbed by Messi

Cristiano Ronaldo could not hide his disgust at being beaten to the FIFA FIFPro Best Player of the Year Award 2020 on Thursday.

The Juventus forward was among the three nominees for the main individual accolade, alongside Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski and old Barcelona rival Lionel Messi.

But it was Lewandowski who came out on top over the superstar pair following his starring role in Bayern’s illustrious treble-winning campaign.

All three players joined the event via live stream and were displayed on screen as the organisers named their winner.

And Ronaldo had a face of thunder upon hearing the announcement, as he remain sat with his arms firmly crossed and bearing a glum expression.

Ronaldo was less than impressed with the outcome of the awards

His mood will unlikely have improved when learning he was snubbed by Messi in the voting too.

The award is chosen by a mixture of votes from fans, journalists and the coaches and captains from national teams.

As Argentina skipper, Messi was able to submit his own vote, but omitted Ronaldo completely from his three star line-up.

Instead, Messi plumped for his former Barcelona teammate Neymar in first, ahead of fellow PSG forward Kylian Mbappe, with Lewandowski ranked third on his list.

His selection of the PSG duo may set tongues wagging considering speculation Messi could join them at the club in the summer.

Ronaldo was somewhat more accommodating for his rival, submitting a one, two, three vote of Lewandowski, Messi and Mbappe.

Lewandowski ignored his two main competitors however, choosing Thiago Alcantara ahead of Neymar and Man City star Kevin De Bruyne.

Nevertheless he was delighted to have pipped both Messi and Ronaldo to claim the trophy.

“If you win such an award and share that title with Messi and Ronaldo, that is unbelievable and it means so much to me,” Lewandowski said.

“A long time ago, I remember I was longing for something like this and now I can win such an award.

“This really means, regardless of where you come from, all that matters is what you put into it.”
