Marseille held their Ligue 1 rivals to a goalless draw in a game Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappe and Neymar all started as Mauricio Pochettino’s men failed to break down a home side that also included another Arsenal loanee, Matteo Guendouzi, in midfield.
PSG were reduced to ten men midway through the second-half as Achraf Hakimi was sent off.
However, Marseille still needed a magnificent last-ditch tackle from Saliba to thwart Mbappe as he ran through on goal for a would-be winner.
“I saw he made the call so I was like, ‘Either take the red or I take the ball’. I tackled the ball well so there you go,’ Saliba told reporters shortly after the final whistle.
“It’s the best game of my career, playing a Classico at the Velodrome with this atmosphere.
“Today we drew, it’s not that bad. We lacked a little efficiency, but from Wednesday we will try to bring all three points.” Saliba signed for Arsenal amidst much fanfare in 2019 and was immediately loaned back to St. Etienne, before arriving at London Colney the following summer.
However, he is still yet to make a first-team appearance for the Gunners, spending the second half of last season on loan at Nice and then joining Marseille this summer.
