Salisbury targets becoming first Brit French Open winner for 39 years

But on Thursday the 29-year-old has his sights set on a second career Grand Slam title.

Salisbury and Rajeev Ram, the 2020 Australian Open champions, were knocked out in the second round of the men’s doubles, leaving the Londoner to turn his attention to the mixed with American Desirae Krawczyk.

And Salisbury is hopeful he can make history by emulating countryman John Lloyd’s feat in winning the same title with Wendy Turnbull all the way back in 1982.

He said: “I didn’t realise it was that long since somebody had won it. That would be pretty amazing.

“I wasn’t really expecting to be in the final of the mixed this week. Obviously the focus was on the men’s doubles, I had a disappointing week here in that and just went out in the mixed pretty relaxed.

“Obviously, there is more on it now and it would be great to win a Slam in the mixed.”

Salisbury and Krawczyk, who have become regular playing partners since 2019, take on Russian pair Aslan Karatsev and Elena Vesnina in the final.
