Former Manchester United star Paul Scholes believes Georginio Wijnaldum should spurn Barcelona’s advances and remain at Liverpool after another commanding display by the midfielder.
Amid an injury crisis across the squad this season, Wijnaldum has been a constant figure for Liverpool with his energy and commitment.
The Dutchman is into the final year of his contract at Anfield and talks over a renewal have not resulted in an agreement.
Barcelona were interested in Wijnaldum during the summer transfer window and the Catalans are now managed by his former national team boss Ronald Koeman.
After the match, the 30-year-old shot down any talk about his contract situation.
And speaking on Amazon Prime, Scholes was adamant Liverpool was the best place for Wijnaldum.

Scholes said: “Why would he want to leave this place?
“The way this team are playing – attacking football. He’s playing football every week.
“I know there’s a bit of talk about Barcelona in the summer but it never came off.
“But why would you want to leave a football team like this?
“Look, I think they’ll win the league again and it’s an exciting team to play in.
“Definitely a better option here. He could be a Barcelona player don’t get me wrong, he would fit into their ways, but the way they’re going at the minute they’re really struggling so why leave a place like this?”
