Sergio Aguero has claimed that Lionel Messi “felt terrible” when he found out he would be leaving Barcelona this summer.

The two players share a close personal relationship away from the pitch due to their friendship from international level with Argentina, where they were frequently roommates.

Aguero joined the Catalan giants this summer as a free agent following his exit from Manchester City, where he had planned to link-up with Messi in a new-look attack at the Camp Nou.

That never materialised as Messi would leave Barca later that summer and would go on to pen a two-year contract at Paris Saint-Germain.

It swiftly transpired that the Argentine superstar had been confident of penning a new long-term deal at the club with a pay cut of 50 percent to ensure that the deal could be processed.

Yet the extent of Barca’s financial problems meant that they were unable to register a new deal for the 34-year-old within their budget, as set by La Liga.

Messi was left stunned by the course of events and his representatives had to quickly sort out his future and move away from the club where he had spent the entirety of his professional career.

Aguero has now given a wide-ranging interview to Spanish outlet El Pais, as per Diario AS, in which he reveals that he paid Messi a visit following the news of his departure.

The former City striker explained how the development had left Messi in a state of shock and his attempts to try and take his mind off the situation.

Aguero revealed: “It was a time of shock for him. He felt terrible.

“When I found out I couldn’t believe it.

“That Saturday I went to see him at his house. And, because of my personality, since I saw him pretty down, I tried make him forget what had happened.

“I could see that he was unable to concentrating and I was trying to distract him. I was telling him about my Esports team. And the things we were doing about it.”

Aguero all said that he had “no regrets” about his decision to move to the Camp Nou this summer and was looking forward to making his debut for the club.

He added: “I arrived with the expectation of playing with Leo and that a good team would be put together, which was what the club tried to do.

“When they called me I thought: “I don’t care what they pay me. I will be happy and I’m going to help the eam as much as possible.”
