Sergio Ramos congratulated Raphael Varane on securing his transfer to Manchester Utd and is looking forward to seeing how his former Real Madrid teammate’s next chapter unfolds
Varane deal ‘a sign of Man Utd’s aims’
Sergio Ramos has predicted that Raphael Varane’s future at Manchester United will be “exciting” as he sent a message to his former Real Madrid teammate ahead of his move to Old Trafford.
The French defender has agreed to join the Red Devils in a £35million deal from the Spanish side as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer makes his second major signing of the summer following the arrival of Jadon Sancho.
Varane’s not the only player that’s left the Bernabeu this summer as Ramos, his centre-back partner of ten years, sealed a switch to Paris Saint-Germain earlier in the window.
And Spain’s former captain congratulated the 28-year-old on securing his transfer to Man Utd and is looking forward to seeing how his next chapter unfolds.
Are Man Utd now serious title contenders with the signing of Varane? Let us know in the comments below.
Ramos also joked that the pair could cross paths once again with their new employers.
He wrote on an Instagram story: “Dear Rapha, I can only thank you for these years of friendship, companionship and triumphs.
“And wish you luck in a new stage that will surely be exciting.
“If we face each other, always with the team of your country, right?”
Solskjaer was delighted to capture a player of Varane’s calibre as the 48-year-old spoke to reporters after United’s 2-2 draw with Brentford at Old Trafford on Wednesday.
He said: “Of course, I’m very happy that we’ve managed to get the deal with Real Madrid.
“He’s a proven winner and a player we’ve followed for many, many years.
“I know Sir Alex was very, very close to signing him and this time around we’ve got him at the other end of his career.
“He’s proved over his whole career what a good person he is, first of all.”
Solskjaer reckons the signings of both Varane and Sancho demonstrates the club’s ambition moving forward.
He added: “I’m very happy getting both our players in.
“First of all, the club has shown ambition with getting one of the most exciting young forwards in world football, and one of the most respected centre-backs and one of the most winning centre-backs in the world.
“With him in, we’ve got different ways of playing of course, and I can see different ways of playing with Raphael.
“I can’t wait to get him in and hopefully we can get that sorted as soon as.”
