Six Nations to stay on free-to-air television after agreement reached

Tournament organisers announced on Friday that they had now entered into “exclusive discussions” with broadcasters BBC and ITV after reaching an agreement in principle.

The agreement covers a four-year period beginning in 2022, with ITV to show all of the Six Nations men’s home matches involving England, Ireland, Italy and France during that time frame and the BBC to broadcast the home games of Scotland and Wales respectively.

The Women’s Six Nations will now be broadcast exclusively on the BBC, who will also have coverage of the men’s Under-20s tournament.

“This is exciting news for fans and for our Championships,” said Six Nations Rugby CEO Ben Morel.

“Both BBC and ITV have been excellent partners in recent years playing an important role in sharing the incredible moments that the Six Nations always produces, and celebrating the special place our Championships hold in the hearts of fans.

“I’m particularly excited by the opportunity to grow the Women’s game with an invested broadcast partner in the BBC who is as committed as we are.

“We’re looking forward to working with them both as we continue to raise the bar and bring Rugby’s Greatest Championships to ever-growing numbers across the UK.”
