Smith Rowe opens up on Arteta’s team talk during Brighton vs Arsenal

Emile Smith Rowe has outlined the Mikel Arteta team talk that inspired Arsenal to victory over Brighton.

Coming off the back of the Boxing Day win over Chelsea, the Gunners were desperate for another victory to lengthen the gap between them and the bottom three.

But the first-half at the Amex Stadium was a frustrating one, with Arsenal struggling to carve out too many clear cut chances.

But Smith Rowe, who was at the heart of all that was good for Arteta’s side, has revealed that the Spaniard perfectly predicted how the second 45 would play out.

Smith Rowe has admitted that his breakthrough at Arsenal is a “dream”

“It was a tough game,” Smith Rowe told the club’s official site. “Brighton showed a lot of confidence tonight. They didn’t play too long ago so it was a really tough game for us, but I feel like it really opened up for us in the second half. We’re really happy with the three points and I think we deserved it.

“Mikel told us the game would open up in the second half so we just tried to keep the belief, the confidence and you could see we started to create more chances. Laca got the goal that helped us.

“I think that was his first and second touch as soon as he came on. Bukayo did really well down that side to get the ball into him. We all know how good Laca is, so it’s no surprise that he scored there.

“For us, it’s just game by game at the moment. We keep trying to improve in training and it’s one game at a time. We’re not in the best situation at the moment but I feel like we’re going to keep building on this and keep pushing forward.”

Smith Rowe has started both of Arsenal’s win over the Christmas period and has claimed that playing for the club “is a dream”, as he continues to impress from midfield.

“I’ve really enjoyed it,” he added. “It’s a dream for me to play for this club. I’m so happy and grateful that the manager’s shown faith in me and given me the chance. I’ve just got to keep training hard, and then when I get the opportunity I’ve got to take it.”
