Solskjaer reveals Man United summer transfer desire amid Kane links

le Gunnar Solskjaer is hoping to bolster his Manchester United squad with up to three impactful new signings this summer in a bid to challenge for the Premier League title next term.

The Red Devils have enjoyed a strong season by the standards of the post-Sir Alex Ferguson era, reaching the final of the Europa League in Gdansk, where they will face Unai Emery’s Villarreal next week as Solskjaer goes in search of his first trophy.

United – who were knocked out in the semi-finals of the Carabao Cup and the quarter-finals of the FA Cup this season – are also guaranteed to finish as runners-up in the top-flight ahead of the final game of their domestic campaign against Wolves at Molineux on Sunday.

However, Solskjaer is only too aware of the need to keep improving the squad at Old Trafford in order to bridge the gap to rivals and champions Manchester City that stands at 12 points before the final round of fixtures, while he also says that he cannot envisage too many players leaving the club this summer.

“Of course we’re planning as we normally do, that’s an ongoing process,” Solskjaer told reporters at Friday’s pre-Wolves press conference after revealing that captain Harry Maguire was very unlikely to return from injury against Villarreal.

“We’re looking at the squad and I hope we’re going to strengthen with two or three players we definitely need to challenge higher up in the table. We’re still too far behind to think it’s just going to come by itself.

“We’ve had a few players on loan that might come back in. There is interest in a few others going out. You want to come out of the transfer window strengthened. It’s difficult to say, I can’t see too many outgoings.”
