Solskjaer told 3 signings needed to “bridge the gap” between Man Utd and rivals

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been told he needs three signings to bridge the gap between Manchester United and their rivals.

The Red Devils are the favourites to go on and win the Europa League after brushing Granada aside in their quarter-final tie.

A 4-0 aggregate win has set up a tie against Roma, who knocked Ajax out in their European clash.

Edinson Cavani was on target again before Jesus Vallejo scored an own goal that saw the Red Devils win 2-0 on Thursday night.

But while United hope to close in on their first trophy under Solskjaer, this tournament is one that the club should not be in.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been told United need three more signings

They were forced to play in the Europa League after being knocked out of the Champions League at the group stage.

With them sitting second in the Premier League, Solskjaer’s side look set to return to the more prestigious competition.

But they will hoping for a better return in the Champions League than this season.

And former United star Owen Hargreaves has told Solskjaer to fork out for three signings to take them to the next level, insisting a striker is not necessary.

He said: “They’re the second-highest scorers in the Premier League already. Is it really their biggest issue?

“Everybody could do with Harry Kane or Erling Haaland, without question. But some of their best players are Mason Greenwood, Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial, Bruno Fernandes, Paul Pogba.

Owen Hargreaves believes Jadon Sancho would be an excellent purchase

“Those boys will get you enough goals. I don’t think it’s realistic that Manchester United can win the Premier League next season.

“But they have to find a way to bridge the gap. You help bridge that gap by getting another centre-back, getting a central midfielder and getting a right winger.

“A lot of people have played on that right hand side and they haven’t really found it.

“Go and find a right winger. Jadon Sancho would be amazing.

“You think about Raphinha at Leeds and what he could do in this United team.

“There are obviously levels. You can’t always spend £100million on every player.”
