Guardiola gives update on Man City’s pursuit of Kane

Harry Redknapp has told Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to hijack Manchester City’s move for Harry Kane – and win the Premier League title.

Former Spurs boss Redknapp insists that if the England skipper joins new £100million City signing Jack Grealish at the Etihad there will be no shifting the title trophy from Pep Guardiola’s grasp.

Redknapp warned: “If Harry Kane follows Jack Grealish to Manchester City, the title race will be over before it starts.”

But, with the impasse between City and Spurs over the Kane fee, the opportunity is there for neighbours United to complete a sensational coup.

Redknapp added: “If I was Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, I would definitely try and nick Harry because, for sure, that would make all the difference.

“What a message that would send out if United could take him off City. That would give them a real chance of being champions.

“I know it’s a massive investment, but that’s one which would be worth the money because Harry guarantees you 20-odd goals a season. United are putting a squad together.

“You look at their team, they have just signed Raphael Varane, they already have Harry Maguire, Luke Shaw has come back after a great Euros, Bruno Fernandes is there – they are looking a team.

“Mason Greenwood and Marcus Rashford, bags of pace. Jadon Sancho has come in, so they could be a team who could be up there pushing. And if they got Harry Kane, they would be very close.”

Unsurprisingly, with hard-nosed Spurs chairman Daniel Levy involved, City have yet to force the Kane deal over the line.

And having managed at Tottenham for four years, Redknapp also knows that the club’s billionaire owner Joe Lewis isn’t one to mess around with.

Redknapp added: “Spurs are owned by Joe Lewis. He is such a rich man, it’s crazy.

“Someone told me he makes Roman Abramovich look poor!

“That’s the wealth Daniel has behind him and so they aren’t going to budge over what they want for Harry Kane.

“I don’t think Daniel and Joe do friendships. I don’t think they do feelings and compassion.

“They are absolute businessmen and, when there’s money concerned, it’s hard business.

“They tell me they were very upset with Harry when he asked for a move before the end of the season when they thought they might get into the Europa League.

“They didn’t like the timing of it and, if Daniel doesn’t get the money he wants, then Harry won’t be going.”
