Solskjaer says Man Utd are better prepared than last term

Manchester United look set to retain Diogo Dalot this summer amid interest from AC Milan, who are ready to move onto another target.

With Ole Gunnar Solskjaer keen on signing Atletico Madrid star Kieran Trippier, it appears that transfer is off the table.

The England international was desperate to move to Old Trafford and had even reportedly been looking at places to live in the area.

But Atletico demanded the club pay his £34m release clause whereas United would have offered around half of that – meaning any deal looked dead before it started.

It means Solskjaer could turn his attentions to his other transfer priority – a midfielder.

With uncertainty around Paul Pogba’s future, several stars have been linked to potentially replace him.

Lyon star Houssen Aouar, Brighton ’s Yves Bissouma and Rennes ace Camavinga are all reportedly on United wish list – with the latter the most likely.

And whether the Red Devils pursue a deal or not seems to have been decided now with AC Milan looking to sign Alessandro Florenzi from AS Roma this summer instead of Dalot, according to Di Marzio.

The Portugal international was their top target after impressing last season but United have demanded €5m in loan fees.

It has forced Milan into rethinking their stance and now they will shop elsewhere.

Florenzi spent last season on loan at Paris Saint-Germain but has told Jose Mourinho that he would like a permanent move away from the Stadio Olimpico this summer.

Milan are primed to pounce and forget about trying to sign Dalot, who could force his way back into the first-team fold at Old Trafford.

Solskjaer had been contemplating keeping the 22-year-old in his squad anyway instead of shelling out for another right-back, report the Manchester Evening News.

The youngster is said to have enjoyed the opportunities he has been given in pre-season and would not be against staying at the club this year.

He is keen to compete with Aaron Wan-Bissaka for a first-team spot – which is what Solskjaer wanted from any arrival – whether that be Dalot or Trippier.

And with that position sorted, United can now move forward with their plans to snap up a midfielder.

Camavinga’s agent Jonathan Barnett has been pushing his client towards Old Trafford despite the player’s ambitions to move to Paris Saint-Germain.

But with them on the cusp of signing Lionel Messi, their wage budget will not allow another signing while Real Madrid are unable to fork out big transfer fees.

It means a move to United is the most likely with the Red Devils the only willing club to take on the Frenchman.
