Picking up the ball on the edge of Tottenham’s penalty area, Son covered 70 meters in 12 seconds and 12 touches, beating multiple men on the way before slotting home beyond a helpless Nick Pope in a 5-0 win against Burnley in December last year.
At the time, Gary Lineker, who scored 67 goals during his time with Tottenham, said of the goal: “Wow. Son has just scored one of the greatest individual goals you’re ever likely to see. Goal of the season, me thinks.”
Lineker was right as Son won Premier League goal of the season last term for the goal and is now vying with 10 others for the prestigious Fifa prize.
Elsewhere on the shortlist is Jordan Flores’ outrageous volley for Dundalk against Shamrock Rovers in the League of Ireland, along with Sophie Ingle’s effort for Chelsea against Arsenal and a fine goal for Manchester City’s Caroline Weir against Manchester United.
