Harry Kane has been given a massive vote of confidence ahead of England’s crunch Group match on Tuesday night.
Gareth Southgate rarely gives any hint on team selection but has taken the unusual step of confirming publicly that Kane will definitely start against Czech Republic to ease the pressure on his captain.
Three Lions boss Southgate said: “He’s our most important player, there’s no doubt about that, you’ve only got to look at his goalscoring record with us to see the importance to the team.
“He is fundamental not only with the goals he scores, the build-up play and everything else he brings. I know there will be a lot of questions being asked about him at the moment but he’s been through that a hundred times before.
Should Southgate consider dropping Kane from the starting XI? Have your say in the comments below.
“I’ve been in this role and answered these questions several times before and he’s come up with the goals and I expect that to be the same moving forward.”
Kane has yet to score in the Euros, drew a blank in the games with Scotland and Croatia and was substituted both times but Southgate also insisted that was part of a plan to ease the workload on his shoulders.
