Sport to be paused or moved to avoid clash with Prince Philip funeral


port will pay its respects to the Duke of Edinburgh by moving fixtures and halting play while his funeral is taking place on Saturday.

The Football League have confirmed that they will move all 32 of their 3pm fixtures to avoid clashing with the funeral, while the only 3pm kick-off in the Premier League – Wolves v Sheffield United – is also set to be rescheduled.

Cricket’s County Championship will pause for more than an hour and the British Horseracing Authority have agreed that no racing will take place between 2.45pm and 4.15pm.

Racing authorities have also delayed the Scottish Grand National by 24 hours.

Premiership Rugby fixtures will be rearranged to avoid a clash, including the 3pm fixture involving Harlequins.

Nine county cricket matches will be paused between 2.50pm and 4.10pm, with the national silence at 3pm observed across all grounds.

The ECB have also asked all recreational clubs to pause play in their matches between 3pm and 4pm.

The FA Cup semi-final between Chelsea and Manchester City at Wembley is expected to go ahead as planned at 5.30pm.
