Steven Gerrard opens up on Liverpool links as he lays out future plans
Steven Gerrard has admitted there has been ‘interest’ in his services as a manager following his Scottish Premiership title success with Rangers this season.
Rumours persist of an eventual fairytale return to Liverpool at some point but the former Reds midfielder insists he is fully focused on achieving more with the Glasgow giants before moving on.
Speaking in the Telegraph, Gerrard says he is pleased his achievements in Scotland are being recognised first and foremost.
“There has been interest, and I don’t think I have to talk about where that comes from,” he revealed.
“All that does is that it tells me I am on the right lines. I am doing a decent job. My players are doing a decent job. I take it as a compliment.”
Gerrard’s side have already been crowned champions of Scotland this season with six games still to play, having amassed an unassailable 20 point lead over bitter rivals Celtic.
The title success also ends a period of dominance for their Glasgow rivals who had won the previous nine championships in a row.
Having last won the league in 2011, Rangers went through a fallow period following liquidation and demotion to Scotland’s fourth tier.
Gerrard, who was appointed in 2018, has helped return the club to past glories and hopes to add more trophies to his collection north of the border.
“I want to try and stay in the now, but I am always aware that there is a short, a medium and a long-term journey for me,” he added.
“I’m really happy in this job. The only real pressure in terms of my role is from my own family. My biggest challenge is to manage my home situation. My family don’t live in Glasgow, and it’s a case of me putting the hours on the road, being up and down.
“In terms of job satisfaction and being content, I’m proud to be in this position. I want more. The title has made me even more hungry and determined to add to that in the short and medium term. And who knows what comes after that?”
Gerrard will lead his team out for the Old Firm derby at Celtic Park looking to maintain their unbeaten run from the start of the season at the home of their rivals.
In contrast, Liverpool’s Premier league challenge this season has faltered with speculation increasing over the future of Jurgen Klopp.

Former club captain Gerrard is aware of stories linking him to the job but again reiterated that his current focus is on Rangers.
“I know that is a question you have seen me answer in previous interviews,” he continued. “And I don’t want to add to any headlines. I think enough has been said on it.
“But I have got goals and targets and aims internally that I want to try to strive to achieve.”
