Pep Guardiola’s side have won 14 games on the spin in all competitions, most recently routing Premier League champions Liverpool 4-1 at Anfield to move three points clear at the top of the table.
Already through to the final of the EFL Cup for the fourth season in a row, Guardiola’s side must be eyeing a repeat of their domestic treble of two seasons ago, even before considering their European ambitions.
They face a Swansea side who are riding high in their own division, however, currently third in the Championship and buoyed by Friday night’s 2-0 win over leaders Norwich, which firmly established their automatic promotion credentials.
These two sides last met in a thrilling quarter-final in this competition two years ago, when Premier League champions City had to come from two goals behind to beat the Welsh side late on.
Looks like a chilly evening in south Wales…
Standard Sport prediction: 3-0 away win
No team in the country is as well equipped to rotate as Manchester City, and even if Guardiola were to make 11 changes to his side he would no doubt still be fielding a fearsome outfit.
Swansea are in fine form themselves but ultimately have bigger fish to fry in the Championship.
Man City team news
Manchester City remain without Sergio Aguero but the Argentine has resumed training with his team-mates after a period of Covid isolation delayed his latest injury comeback.
Guardiola has no fresh injury concerns following the win over Liverpool at Anfield, but is likely to rotate his side. Aymeric Laporte, Benjamin Mendy, Ferran Torrres and Gabriel Jesus are among those who started on the bench for that game and could all come in.
