Tokyo 2020 roundup: GB scoops six more medals
Team GB powered to gold in the triathlon mixed relay as Alex Yee and Georgia Taylor-Brown improved on their silver medals in the individual events.
Yee and Taylor-Brown, together with Jess Learmonth and Jonny Brownlee, won Great Britain’s seventh gold medal of the Games in Japan as the mixed relay was held for the first time at the Olympics.
Learmonth had got Team GB off to a great start with a sensational swim, finishing her leg just shy of the lead in second place after her bike and run legs.
She handed over to Brownlee, who got Britain back into the lead, which Taylor-Brown defended following her incredible silver in the women’s event.
Yee maintained GB’s lead to take gold, after he had also finished an impressive second in the men’s race earlier in the week.
The quartet held off the challenge of the United States, who took silver, with France claiming the bronze medal.
