Erik ten Hag has already been sent a warning about Manchester United target Antony’s temperament.

The new United boss managed the Brazilian winger during his time at Ajax, where he showed his hot-headedness on more than one occasion. One of those times was during Ajax’s 3-2 win over Feyenoord in March, after which he was sent warnings about the player by former Netherlands internationals up and down the country.

It comes as James Garner has sent Ten Hag a message about his ambitions for the new season as he looks to tie down a place in his starting line-up. And Zinedine Zidane has explained exactly why he could never manage Manchester Unted.

Here are Mirror Football’s latest Manchester United headlines.

Antony warning

Erik ten Hag will know exactly what he will be signing up for if he is successful in bringing Antony to Manchester United.

The Brazilian displayed his incredible natural ability while playing under Ten Hag at Ajax, but also showed a penchant for hitting the headlines for all the wrong reasons. After hitting an incredible strike to claim a 3-2 win over Feyenoord in March, Antony removed his shirt in the excitement leading to him being booked.

And then just moments later he was shown a second yellow card for timewasting, leading to his captain Dusan Tadic throwing him to the ground in frustration. Former Netherlands international Rene van der Gijp slammed the star, saying he could even “get crazier”.

While ex-Ajax ace Wim Kieft hinted Antony “behaves like an idiot”. And it appears Ten Hag took the messages on board as he admitted the forward still has much to “learn”.

Garner’s first team message

James Garner wants to “go on pre-season and impress” after returning to Manchester United following his loan spell with Nottingham Forest.

The midfielder helped Forest claim promotion to the Premier League through the Championship play-offs last season as played in an impressive 44 first-team appearances. He returns to United with the club desperate for quality in the middle of the park, under a manager who has built a reputation for giving young players a chance to impress.

And in a statement that will surely be music to the ears of his new boss, Garner says it is “down to me as a player to impress him and hopefully make a mark.”.

Why Zidane could never manage United

Former Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane has hinted he could never take charge at Manchester United.

The Frenchman was one of the names linked with the Old Trafford job before the club chose to appoint Erik ten Hag, and it appears he may never take one the role. Zidane has said there are only “two or three” teams who he would realistically manage, suggesting the likes of Paris Saint-Germain, his former side Juventus and the French national side may be his preferred destinations.

And the World Cup winner also admitted he is not “completely fluent” in English – something he sees as being important to take on any manager’s job in England.
